One is NTFS (New Technology File System) and the other is FAT (File Allocation Table). About FAT32
Before we talk about FAT32 file size limit, let us know something more about this file system. The FAT32 file management technology, along with its predecessors (FAT16 and FAT12) were developed by Microsoft. The FAT32 was developed in particular in 1996 and launched with the Windows 95 operating system.
Though FAT32 has been outperformed by more sophisticated and advanced file systems like NTFS, it is still the preferred file system for storage devices like flash memory cards, digital cameras, external hard drives and USB flash drives, as it is compatible with most disk operating systems, including Linux, Macintosh and Windows. The main reason for the ineptitude of FAT32 is the the simplistic data structure that it has, which makes every file operation very time consuming.
It allows for drive sizes of 8 Terabytes (240) with 32 Kebibyte (1024 bytes) clusters. Theoretically, a FAT volume cannot go beyond 137 GB in size as the FAT structure cannot grow beyond a maximum size of 222 clusters. This limitation was imposed because with greater volume sizes, data transfers becomes too slow under FAT32 format.
File Size Limit For FAT32
Most computer users (which included me, until very recently) are usually not aware of the fact that there is a maximum file size memory limit on every formatted hard drive. This file system’s maximum limiting size on stored files is set by its inherent design considerations. The FAT32 file size limit is only 4 GB minus 1 byte (232 – 1 bytes). That means, any kind of file cannot attain a maximum size of 4GB. Therefore, FAT32 is unsuitable as a file system for large databases and video applications.
Many people that use video converter software, find that creating video files greater than 4 GB is just not possible on a hard drive formatted using FAT32 format. Though initially, one may think that it is due to some flaw in the video converter software, the problem lies in the limitation of FAT32 file size limit itself. So, there is no option but to resort to an NTFS format for hard drive formatting when you have large sized files, greater than 4GB. The actual maximum volume size allowed under a FAT32 format is 2 terabytes. The maximum number of files that one can store under FAT32 is 268435437.
One way out of this constraint imposed by FAT32 file size limit is to split the file into two parts with sizes not exceeding 2 GB. The best option is to convert the file system from FAT32 to NTFS, by using the following command. Just open command prompt by going through ‘Start > Run’ and then type the following
C:> convert Drive Name: / fs : ntfs
Type the name of the drive in place of the drive name and your FAT32 drive will get converted to NTFS. With that, your problem will be solved as NTFS allows a maximum file size limit of 16 Terabytes!

Bad sectors may also be caused by sudden physical shocks to the hard drive, sudden power shutdown and interruption of reading and writing operations on the disk. A failing read-write head of a hard disk is another cause of bad sectors getting created.
If the bad sectors are caused due to loss of magnetization, the damage is irreversible. However, if the problem is due to inconsistencies in parity checking bits, it can be corrected by using appropriate software that can rewrite and restore these bits.

What are the Different Types of Hard Drives?
Based upon technical details and functionalities, there are four major types of hard drives that are commercially available as of this date. These four hard drive types are being discussed below under separate headings.
Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics: More commonly known as PATA (Parallel Advanced Technology Attachments), EIDE’s are not very popular these days as advanced technologies in the form of SATA have captured a lion’s share of the hard drive consumer market. The labels on these drives correspond to the interface variant which is involved to connect the CPU board and the drive together. Serial Advanced Technology Attachments: Commonly known by its abbreviated name SATA, these hard drives are identified apart from their precedent, EIDE or PATA due to a different variant of connector incorporated in the former. Solid State Drives: Abbreviated as SSD, these hard drives are composed of stationary parts. There are no moving paraphernalia in these drives, as opposed to other hard drive variants which usually include magnetic disks that rotate as they back up data. SSDs are equipped with semiconductors which perform the task of rotating magnetic disks to pile up saved data. The absence of moving parts within the drive means it is less susceptible to break downs and their processing speed is faster than other drives that employ the conventional storage methods! Small Computer System Interface: Known by its short form SCSI, these drives function in similar ways as EIDEs insomuch as they employ rotating magnetic disks to write and save data upon them. Faster spin rate means faster data processing and storage. However, the flip side of fast rotation rate is that the faster the disk rotates, the faster the drive is likely to break down!
